Plant Food Diversity for Microbiome Health
One of the only things I want clients to keep a rough count of of for gut health is the number of different plant foods they eat per week!
You don’t need to do this every week, but doing a little audit from time to time can also be a fun way to check in on the diversity of your diet.
Research suggests we should aim for at least 30 different plant foods per week to support gut microbiome diversity and health. Remember that whole grains, nuts & seeds, olives, cacao, matcha, & herbs all count!
A diverse gut microbiome supports:
Healthy digestion & regular bowel movements
Immune health
Mood & mental wellbeing
Inflammation balance
Blood sugar regulation
Hormone metabolism
A healthy gut lining
I’ve made a little PDF printout, so that you can stick it to the fridge and keep a tally throughout the week.
